Koth fandom rant

ArcticVixen:
I won't disagree that the new season has me leery. But at the same time I think this fandom can be TOO serious over a cartoon. :/ Not to mention the hate on Connie who is few of my favorite characters. I just want to start a brawl with that one Redditor who called her a "enm whore." imgur.com/lews-therin-celebrating-after-sealing-bore-nZwmoGw

Yeah, just don't go on r/kingofthehill for the sake of your mental health. I predict someone will say "but a lot of fandoms are toxic!" I won't deny that statement. But I am just surprised to see so much toxicity over a slice of life comedy. And no I am not just referring to the new season.

Unfortunately, I've had bad apples kind of ruin my love of my interests. Such as Littlest Pet Shop and Dear Evan Hansen. Learned the hard way that you don't always need a community to enjoy your favorite pieces of media. Just watching videos (without reading the comment) or looking at fan art is fine enough.

I guess I will regret writing this post. I just wanted to let off some steam. Hopefully Friday is a better day.

I didn’t know there was a fandom for king of the hill.

@Munchies Not sure if you were being passive aggressive or not but no it's not my first time. I've stated in the one paragraph I had dealt with unsavory people from the LPS and Dear Evan Hansen fandoms.

Those were just latest examples. During the early 2010's when MLP:FIM was popular I was bullied by a brony on some forum and I was like 12 at the time. I've been using the internet for decades now (and yes I wasn't always supervised from parents) so I have seen a lot of drama from various communities. Such as the dumb wolfaboo hatedom on Deviantart.

On a side note I did tried deleting this embarrassing thread but I kept getting an error message. At least it didn't receive much traction so I guess that's sort of relieving.

@Morbidly A Beast I guess technically any piece of media is going to have a following. Maybe the King of the Hill community isn't as loud as let's say Steven Universe probably due to the show stopping for a while. Maybe that's not a strong comparison. Edit: Also most of the fans for KOTH are in their thirties or forties. Meanwhile most SU fans are around my age or younger.

As for obscure shows or games of course it's not going to be huge. Maybe a small club on Deviantart and that's pretty much it. Unless if it's something that has gotten popular thanks to trends or algorithms. Take for example the animecore (interest in 2000's anime and Japanese online culture) fandom that made forgotten anime like Di Gi Charat suddenly relevant. Even making the merchandise expensive all because of cutesy room edits on Pinterest.

I was being tongue-in-cheek. I've been in fandom spaces since the LiveJournal days, so I've seen my share of toxic fandoms.

Hell, I remember fandoms so toxic they were infamous for being toxic. Hetalia and Homestuck come to mind.

If it exists, there's a fandom for it. Hell, sometimes, it exists even if the piece of media doesn't. Like the Goncherov fandom.
